Words from the happy couple about their wedding in Bali:
Our wedding day was one of most beautiful days in our life. Not everything turned out as planned (it rained and we had to move the ceremony indoors) but nonetheless everything worked out and we will always treasure the wonderful memories of the event.
We wanted to have a destination wedding as we wanted it to be an intimate three-day long celebration with all our closest friends and family. We chose the beautiful island of Bali and after visiting several venues, we saw the Khayangan Estate (in Balinese meaning “Seventh Heaven”) and fell instantly in love. The panoramic ocean backdrop was one of the most beautiful views we’ve ever seen! It was so beautiful and out of this world and we knew right then that this was it!
I wanted our wedding to be very romantic but also full of “cuteness”. I chose pastel colors to go with my vintage theme. Being obsessed with romantic and vintage inspired wedding décor, I was so excited to plan every single detail. Choice for flowers was limited in Bali and we chose to use a lot of carnations and roses for that romantic sweet feel. At times, it was difficult to get my ideas across to our wedding planner who was based in Bali while we were based in Hong Kong. I had to make detailed word documents with photos and clear directions as I wanted our wedding to be perfect!
I designed my own wedding dress as well as my bridesmaids’ dresses and had a tailor in Hong Kong make my sketches come to life! I wanted my bridesmaids dresses to be special, so I chose a floral print chiffon for the fabric which matched perfectly with our theme. My dress was very romantic with a large rosette and an elegant mermaid shape.
The day started off with a Chinese tradition of playing games on the groom and the groomsmen. The games were hilarious and a good way to get everybody relaxed. Our ceremony was beautiful with our self-written vows, everyone was overwhelmed with emotion, there was so much love! We exchanged our vows in a Balinese pavilion with intricate carved ceilings and walls, with a view towards the Indian Ocean. The skies cleared up after the ceremony and we moved back outdoors for cocktails and photos! I decorated some disposable cameras with crystals and pearls and the guests had fun snapping away with our photo props!
The dinner banquet area was set up under a marquee with magical lighting that transformed the villa gardens into a romantic and elegant setting. We had a dance floor and hired a live band and the night continued on with fabulous and heartwarming speeches. Since everyone was on holiday in a foreign country, our guests were very relaxed and they moved around a lot and everyone was having a wonderful time drinking and enjoying themselves! The highlight of the evening was probably the dancing, when me and my husband performed our Argentine Tango piece (after hours of classes!!) and everybody joining in afterwards to dance the night away.
We were lucky we found Veli, our Bali wedding photographer who was simply amazing and captured all the best moments of our wedding! I’ve since found a new appreciation and love for all the details of every wedding I attend as I now know how much thought was put into every single detail!
